How is a great way to generate sales leads?

There are business organizations that will sell you updated contacts in certain industries, that's one way.
Another is to use Hoovers to find contacts within companies.
Or, when you are on the phone with your current contacts, ask them (in your discovery phase) who their competitors are, then research the company and get a contact.
It's very easy to cold call a receptionist and ask to speak to someone in a specific department- for example, I ask for the IT person, or you can say "can I speak to the person responsible for server maintenance?"
One last way is to ask your current contacts for referrals- "Who else in your company would benefit from these products" or something similar.
